One Nil came back for a second run. After the kit we made for the Baobei Tournament in Suzhou, Hong Kong's LGBTQ football team asked for a new one, for a bigger stage: the Gay Games in Valencia.
This time we went back to their beginning. One Nil's first kit, from 2009, was white with a pink stripe. That became the starting point rather than the finish line.
The name did the rest of the work. One. Nil. One, zero. We turned the pink into a field of 1s and 0s falling down the shirt, dense across the shoulder and thinning out towards the hem, so from the touchline it reads as a gradient and up close it resolves into code.
The away kit takes the same idea and drops the lights. Black, with the pink code falling harder.
Across the lower back of both shirts the binary runs as a single line with its translation printed underneath, in brackets: ONE NIL. Below that sits the bauhinia, Hong Kong's flower, in pink. The kit says where the team is from and what it is called without a word of explanation, twice over.
It debuted in Valencia and the reception was everything we hoped for. One Nil played very, very well.
